Baseball Game Preview: Estrella Foothills Wolves vs. Mesquite Wildcats

The Estrella Foothills Wolves will venture away from home to square off against the Mesquite Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Estrella Foothills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Estrella Foothills took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let Westview get on the board and left with a 17-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won three in a row.

Hunter Harris looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has become a key player for Estrella Foothills: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most one hit, but 5-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Blake Miller was a standout: he scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Estrella Foothills is undefeated when Miller posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Alec Schaeffer, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Estrella Foothills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Mesquite was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They fell just short of St. Mary's by a score of 3-2.

Mesquite's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Estrella Foothills, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Estrella Foothills suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Mesquite in their previous meeting back in April of 2019. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
