Softball Recap: Hilltop Has No Trouble Against Delta

Hilltop won the last time they faced Delta and things went their way on Saturday too. The Cadets blew past the Panthers 13-3. The Cadets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Kelsy Connolly made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Sophia Crossgrove and Libbie Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Crossgrove went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Baker went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Brooklyn Kuszmaul also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Hilltop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Hilltop and bumps their season record up to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Delta, their defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Coming up, Hilltop will square off against Edon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cadets are facing the Bombers at the right time seeing as the Bombers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Delta, they have already played their next contest, a 12-0 loss against Bryan on the 14th.
