Baseball Game Preview: Walton-Verona Bearcats vs. George Rogers Clark Cardinals

The Walton-Verona Bearcats are taking a road trip to square off against the George Rogers Clark Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Walton-Verona will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Last Wednesday, Walton-Verona was able to grind out a solid victory over Simon Kenton, taking the game 6-3.

Bronson Corpus tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Walton-Verona's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Kerns, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another was Trever Bauwens, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between George Rogers Clark and Campbell County, and George Rogers Clark kept the tradition alive. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Camels 4-3. That's two games straight that the Cardinals have won by just one run.

George Rogers Clark pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Walton-Verona, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
