Softball Recap: Gaston Bulldogs vs. Gadsden City Titans
Gaston had lost seven straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-16-1 to make it eight. They lost 21-5 to the Gadsden City Titans. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly 16 runs.
As for Gadsden City, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-24. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11, 2024 (when they won 23-7).
For Gadsden City's part, Raina Underwood made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Underwood a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kiera Hampton, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last five matches. Jalynn Odom was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Coming up, Gaston will square off against Saks at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gadsden City, they will face off against Westbrook Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Titans are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
