Softball Game Preview: Johnson Warriors vs. Valley Vikings

The Johnson Warriors will challenge the Valley Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Johnson has three straight wins, Valley has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Johnson's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Fairfield. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Angelene Gonzales made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Kayla Madison was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Leticia Gonzales, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Johnson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .577. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .118.

Meanwhile, Valley lost 30-15 to Burbank on Wednesday.

Johnson's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Johnson took their win against Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
