Baseball Preview: Stoneham Spartans vs. Medford Mustangs

The Stoneham Spartans will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Medford Mustangs at 4:15 p.m.

Last Friday, Stoneham came up short against Lexington and fell 5-1. Stoneham has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Medford entered their tilt with Revere with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They beat the Patriots on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-5. Considering Medford has won four contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

John Wright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Mke Piccolo and Jack Lombardo did most of the damage at the plate: Piccolo scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4, while Lombardo scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Travers Moodie, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Stoneham's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Medford, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
