Baseball Recap: Wayne Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Wayne's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Geneva Panthers an 8-0 shutout. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ben Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gehrig Locker, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Kahlen Clark, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Wayne now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Geneva, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Wayne will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against School of the Arts at 5:00 p.m. As for Geneva, they will square off against East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
