Football Recap: Jabriran B Blake and Daylon Gordon Secure Win for Wylie

After losing to Sachse the last time they met, Wylie decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Pirates came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 34-27 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Wylie was led to victory by Daylon Gordon and Jabriran B Blake. Gordon gained 279 total yards and three touchdowns, while B Blake rushed for 92 yards and one TD. The dominant performance also gave B Blake a new career-high in passing yards (245).

Wylie didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Sachse to a completion percentage of just 40.6%. The Pirates weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 78.9%.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Wylie, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Gordon, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Sachse's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcus Rhoden, who picked up 122 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Rhoden showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 60 yards. Sachse also got a significant boost from Roderick Rainwater, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.

The win got Wylie back to even at 2-2. As for Sachse, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.

Coming up, Wylie will square off against South Garland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sachse, they will be playing at home against Lakeview Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Patriots will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
