Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. San Marcos Rattlers
New Braunfels is 7-0 against San Marcos since September of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The New Braunfels Unicorns will look to defend their home field against the San Marcos Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully New Braunfels is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than San Marcos in Texas (New Braunfels is ranked 178th, while San Marcos is ranked 766th).
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but New Braunfels ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged Clemens out 32-30. The victory made it back-to-back wins for New Braunfels.
New Braunfels got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Leighton Adams out in front who threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Tyree Johnson, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to San Marcos, who are still winless after their eighth game. They were dealt a 48-16 loss at the hands of Judson on Friday.
New Braunfels is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. As for San Marcos, their defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8.
Everything came up roses for New Braunfels against San Marcos in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 38-10 victory. Does New Braunfels have another victory up their sleeve, or will San Marcos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
