Oak Grove faced Brandon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 4-3. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Bulldogs last Tuesday, they had to take a 7-2 loss.

Gage Thompson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Eric Booth Jr was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Caleb Pfaff was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Oak Grove has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Brandon, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-11.

Coming up, Oak Grove will welcome Petal at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Brandon, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-0 win against Mize on the 12th.
