Basketball Recap: Andrews Takes a Loss

Andrews was not able to break out of their rough patch on Sunday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a hard 54-37 fall against the Charlotte Christian Knights.

When it comes to explaining why Andrews lost, don't look at Chris Stewart. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. Those 13 points gave Stewart a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Cumbee, who posted eight points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Andrews smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Charlotte Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darryuin Sturdivant led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to five boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Cooper Solomon, who put up 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Andrews' loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Charlotte Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.

Andrews will welcome Waccamaw at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Waccamaw will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Andrews surely won't give up without a fight. As for Charlotte Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-46 defeat against Ravenscroft on the 3rd.
