Softball Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

Russell fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Billings West on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Bears by a score of 7-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rustlers of the 13-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Russell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Marr, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Aspyn Zuelke also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Russell and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Billings West, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 5-0.

Coincidentally, Russell and Billings West will both be playing Belgrade the next time they take the field. The Golden Bears will head out to face the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Rustlers will host them at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
