Softball Recap: Waynedale Beats Smithville for Their Third Straight Victory

Waynedale extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 8-10 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 13-12 W against the Smithville Smithies. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Golden Bears have posted since March 25th.

Madi Miller was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayleigh Mast, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Waynedale hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive games.

As for Smithville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. On the bright side, the 12- run effort marked their highest-scoring matchup to date.

On Smithville's side, Ali Horst and Kiersten Ross stepped up to the plate in a big way. Horst went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Ross got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs. Reiley Evans was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Waynedale beat Smithville by a score of 10-3 on Friday.
