Baseball Recap: Mattoon Sets Scoring Season-High Against Taylorville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mattoon). They blew past the Taylorville Tornadoes 14-7 on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Greenwave as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Shayden Neff, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Mathew Miller was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mattoon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Mattoon now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Taylorville, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-5.

Mattoon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tornadoes: the pair will be back at it again later today.
