Baseball Preview: West Point Pointers vs. Bruton Panthers
The West Point Pointers will head out on the road to square off against the Bruton Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. West Point comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
West Point fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Thomas Jefferson on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 13-10 to the Vikings. Even if the Pointers couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
West Point saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylan Stanley, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and four RBI. Jake Atkins was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Bruton came into Thursday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Northampton last Thursday.
Ty Yates was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. William Muller also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
West Point's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bruton, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-6.
