Softball Recap: Jordan Pe?a and Shelby Townsend Secure Win for Sunset

Sunset hadn't done well against Westview recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Apollos' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 2-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 back in April.

Not much got past Sydney Arnold, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Westview off the board. Arnold has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sunset let Shelby Townsend and Jordan Pe?a run wild. Townsend went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Pe?a went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Townsend's first of the season.

Sunset lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Sunset's win bumped their record up to 21-4. As for Westview, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunset will welcome Beaverton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Beavers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.25 runs per game on average), something the Apollos will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Westview, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southridge at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
