Basketball Recap: Grants Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Grants and Highland, and Grants kept the tradition alive. The Grants Pirates fell just short of the Highland Hornets by a score of 54-51 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Pirates have suffered against the Hornets since January 24, 2023.

Highland's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Rodriguez led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Rodriguez is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Breanna Payton, who posted 15 points and eight rebounds.

Grants dropped their record down to 10-17 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Highland, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-13 record.

Grants does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Highland, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-35 loss against Valencia on the 27th.
