Basketball Recap: Rocky Mountain Lutheran Sets Scoring Season-High Against Ascent Classical Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rocky Mountain Lutheran). They put the hurt on the Ascent Classical Academy Guardians with a sharp 75-53 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Eagles have posted since December 3, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rocky Mountain Lutheran to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abraham Rivas, who went 10 for 22 en route to 23 points along with five assists and four steals. What's more, Rivas also posted a 45% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Blake Harris, who went 8 of 19 to rack up 21 points and three steals.

Rivas wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Rocky Mountain Lutheran was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ascent Classical Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jack Colberg, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 17 points. Colberg is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Isaac Hutchins was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 13 points.

The victory made it two in a row for Rocky Mountain Lutheran and bumps their season record up to 4-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points over those games. As for Ascent Classical Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky Mountain Lutheran will face off against Weldon Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ascent Classical Academy, they will square off against Golden View Classical Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Golden View Classical Academy will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Ascent Classical Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
