Basketball Game Preview: Lake Gibson Braves vs. Newsome Wolves

The Lake Gibson Braves will face off against the Newsome Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Gibson knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Newsome likes a good challenge.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Lake Gibson turned things around against Father Lopez on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-39 victory over the Green Wave.

Lake Gibson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was A'Darrion Willis out in front who posted 18 points. The match was Willis' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Epps, who earned 13 points.

Meanwhile, Newsome had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.8 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They strolled past the Falcons with points to spare, taking the game 64-46. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Falcons are ranked 525th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newsome's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Lake Gibson, their win bumped their record up to 6-13.

Lake Gibson beat Newsome 56-47 in their previous meeting back in January of 2018. Will Lake Gibson repeat their success, or does Newsome have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
