Preview: Lely Trojans vs. Golden Gate Titans
The Lely Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Golden Gate Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lely is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Lely ended up a good deal behind Palmetto Ridge and lost 64-48. While losing is never fun, Lely can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while Palmetto Ridge is ranked 22nd).
Despite the defeat, Lely got a solid performance out of Jayce Cora, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Cora. Another player making a difference was McAndrew Gaspard, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Golden Gate scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Immokalee by a score of 52-41. That looming 52-41 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Golden Gate yet this season.
Lely bumped their record down to 1-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Golden Gate, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-6.
Lely came up short against Golden Gate when the teams last played back in January, falling 64-59. Can Lely avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
