Basketball Game Preview: Mullen Mustangs vs. Eaglecrest Raptors

Mullen is 1-9 against Eaglecrest since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mullen Mustangs will face off against the Eaglecrest Raptors at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Mullen is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Wednesday. They took a hard 73-59 fall against Cherry Creek. The Mustangs were down 57-33 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Mullen's loss came about despite a quality game from Ben Medina, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Bauer, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Eaglecrest had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.1 points) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They strolled past the Cougars with points to spare, taking the game 66-47. Given the Raptors' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Cougars are ranked 54th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Eaglecrest's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Mullen, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Mullen beat Eaglecrest 60-47 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Does Mullen have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eaglecrest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
