Basketball Recap: Lee Williams Takes a Loss

Lee Williams lost against Sierra Vista back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lee Williams Volunteers received a blow as they fell 60-44 to the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions. While losing is never fun, the Volunteers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 194th in Arizona, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 44th in Nevada).

Donnayja Gibson was her usual excellent self, putting up 24 points for Sierra Vista. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gibson has scored at least a third of Sierra Vista's points. Another player making a difference was Avery Silvas, who posted 14 points.

Lee Williams is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8. As for Sierra Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.

Lee Williams and Churchill County will face off at 9:00 a.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Sierra Vista, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rancho at 5:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Sierra Vista is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
