Basketball Recap: Yazoo City Comes Up Short

Yazoo City has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-47 heartbreaker at the hands of the Northwest Rankin Cougars. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Yazoo City still got an impressive performance from Travis Jones, who posted 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keiron Davis, who put up nine points.

Deshawn Dillon produced another solid performance putting up 16 points and six boards for Northwest Rankin. Jordan Samuel was another key player, earning seven points.

Yazoo City's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Northwest Rankin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Yazoo City wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 49-37 victory against Yazoo County on the 12th. As for Northwest Rankin, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-54 defeat against Starkville on the 12th.
