It was another big night for Christian Wyatt, who threw for 245 yards and two TDs while completing 82.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 78 yards. His passing game has become a key predictor of South Lakes' success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise. A healthy portion of Wyatt's aerial production (108 yards to be exact) went to Nick Picarelli.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westfield). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 56-28 win over Washington-Liberty. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Generals are ranked 140th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Lakes better keep an eye on PJ Sutherland. He was instrumental in Westfield's win, rushing for 186 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Sutherland a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Merrit Clinton, who rushed for 81 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Westfield was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 315 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Westfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Malachi Lee. Westfield got some further help from Wesley Flamer: he made 18 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
South Lakes now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Westfield, their record now sits at 8-3.
