Basketball Recap: Point Loma Starts Season with Win Against Coronado + How To Watch

Point Loma had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took down the Coronado Islanders 60-45 on Wednesday. This was payback for the Pointers, who suffered a 65-54 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jax Marple went supernova, putting up 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. That's the most assists he has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of William Conquest, who put up ten points and three steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Point Loma was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coronado only posted six.

Coronado's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Brown, who went 8-for-18 on his way to 20 points and four steals. Another player making a difference was Aiden Roberts, who scored eight points along with 11 boards and four steals.

Coming up, Point Loma will venture away from home to square off against Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Coronado, they will take on Santana in a tournament on Saturday.
