Basketball Game Preview: Mater Academy Charter Lions vs. Homestead Broncos

Two dominant guards in Halle Jordan and Alissa Brown are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mater Academy Charter Lions will take on the Homestead Broncos on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mater Academy Charter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Coral Park 70-24. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while the Rams are ranked 507th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Homestead). They blew past Braddock 87-43 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Broncos sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Mater Academy Charter has also been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.2 points per game. As for Homestead, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.

Everything came up roses for Mater Academy Charter against Homestead in their previous meeting back in January of 2021, as the team secured a 62-34 victory. In that game, Mater Academy Charter amassed a halftime lead of 33-13, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
