Preview: Lyman Memorial Bulldogs vs. Westbrook Knights
Lyman Memorial has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Westbrook Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Last Monday, Lyman Memorial took a serious blow against Norwich Free Academy, falling 71-36.
Lyman Memorial's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jenny Lopez, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Phoebe Carpenter who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Lopez is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Piaseczny, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Westbrook had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 42-38 victory over Old Lyme on Monday. Westbrook's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Lyman Memorial's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Westbrook, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-13.
Everything came up roses for Lyman Memorial against Westbrook in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 55-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lyman Memorial since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
