Basketball Game Preview: Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets vs. Rowe Warriors

The Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets will challenge the Rowe Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Edcouch-Elsa sitting on seven straight wins and Rowe on three.

Edcouch-Elsa proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 53) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Rivera 71-68. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellowjackets have posted since January 14th.

Edcouch-Elsa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Erasmo Tamez out in front who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 14 boards. Those 21 points gave Tamez a new career-high. Victor Hernandez was another key player, going 6-for-13 to rack up 16 points.

Edcouch-Elsa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Rowe was able to grind out a solid victory over McAllen Memorial on Tuesday, taking the game 51-38. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Mustangs are ranked 706th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edcouch-Elsa's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points over those games. As for Rowe, their victory bumped their record up to 24-9.
