For the first time this season, Haynes Academy will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Thursday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Fisher Gators at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Haynes Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Thomas Jefferson, taking the game 12-9. Haynes Academy hasn't had any issues with Thomas Jefferson recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Fisher and L.W. Higgins, and Fisher kept the tradition alive. Everything went Fisher's way against L.W. Higgins on Wednesday as Fisher made off with an 18-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Gabby St Ann was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. St Ann was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases.
In other batting news, Fisher let Sydnie Victoriano and Talyn Feicht run wild. Victoriano went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Feicht scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs Victoriano has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tristyn Cheramie, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
Fisher always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Fisher has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. The win got Haynes Academy back to even at 2-2.
Everything went Haynes Academy's way against Fisher when the teams last played back in March of 2019, as Haynes Academy made off with a 16-0 victory. Will Haynes Academy repeat their success, or does Fisher have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
