Basketball Recap: Yuma Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Windsor Charter Academy

On Friday, Yuma faced Windsor Charter Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Yuma Outlaws fell just short of the Windsor Charter Academy Firebirds by a score of 75-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (68), the Outlaws still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Yuma lost, don't look at Brody Sheffield. Despite the final result, he posted 33 points along with seven assists and seven boards. That's the most assists Sheffield has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Thomson, who earned 14 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Windsor Charter Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dayton Long, who went 9-for-17 to rack up 23 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Andrew Schams, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds.

Yuma's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 16-3. As for Windsor Charter Academy, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-1.

Looking ahead, Yuma will take on Resurrection Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Resurrection Christian is on a ten-game streak of home wins, Yuma a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Windsor Charter Academy, they will welcome Liberty Common at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty Common is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season.
