Preview: Whitinsville Christian Crusaders vs. Douglas Tigers
Whitinsville Christian is 8-2 against Douglas since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Whitinsville Christian Crusaders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Douglas Tigers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Whitinsville Christian has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Douglas will arrive with five straight victories.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Whitinsville Christian, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-34 loss to Blackstone-Millville.
Despite the defeat, Whitinsville Christian got a solid performance out of Caleb Deters, who scored 17 points. That was a full 50% of Whitinsville Christian's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Plantinga, who scored eight points.
Even though Douglas has not done well against Nipmuc Regional recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Douglas came out on top against Nipmuc Regional by a score of 62-51.
Douglas got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Owen Gray out in front who scored 18 points. That's the first time this season that Gray scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Howard, who scored 16 points.
Whitinsville Christian's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-5. As for Douglas, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Whitinsville Christian lost to Douglas at home by a decisive 51-37 margin in their previous matchup on January 5th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Douglas' Adam Dunphy, who scored 18 points.
