Softball Game Preview: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Sahuarita Mustangs

The Mountain View Mountain Lions will challenge the Sahuarita Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Sahuarita will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Mountain View extended their winning streak to five on Thursday. The Mountain Lions blew past Maricopa 14-3. 14 seems to be a good number for the Mountain Lions as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Arianna Figueroa made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Mia Quinonez was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was AAliyah Pereda, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Mountain View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, while Sahuarita put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Cactus. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over the Cobras.

Mountain View pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sahuarita, their win bumped their record up to 15-2.

Mountain View was able to grind out a solid victory over Sahuarita in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, winning 9-4. Do the Mountain Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
