Basketball Recap: Harrison Central's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

After a string of three wins, Harrison Central's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 57-49 to the West Florida Jaguars. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Red Rebels came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 111th in Mississippi, while the Jaguars are ranked 525th in Florida).

When it comes to explaining why Harrison Central lost, don't look at Shaun Murray. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nehemiah Barnett, who posted 12 points.

West Florida's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Murphy, who had eight points. Another player making a difference was Kayleb Johnson, who put up six points.

Harrison Central's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for West Florida, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-7.

Harrison Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 80-41 defeat against Fairhope on the 28th. As for West Florida, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Pine Forest at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. West Florida knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Pine Forest likes a good challenge.
