Preview: Sabine Cardinals vs. Tatum Eagles
The Sabine Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Tatum Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sabine is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Sabine pushed their score all the way to 42 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gladewater. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (37), Sabine still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Sabine got a solid performance out of Colt Sparks, who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 74 yards and a touchdown. Sparks was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.
Meanwhile, Tatum was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past White Oak 49-15 on the road. Given Tatum's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 395th, while White Oak is ranked 1072nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tatum can attribute much of their success to Jamarri Gipson, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and Cole Watson, who rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Jacorie Bradley was in the mix too, providing Tatum with two touchdowns.
With Sabine's defeat and Tatum's win, both teams now sport identical 3-4 records.
Sabine might still be hurting after the 56-34 loss they got from Tatum in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Sabine avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
