Baseball Recap: Middletown Takes a Loss

Middletown had lost seven straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Prout Crusaders by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 back in April.

Evan LeVasseur put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-6 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Garrett West was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Colton Kerrison, who went 3-for-6 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Prout, their record now sits at 9-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 28th.

On Prout's side, their win was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Chofay, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The Crusaders are undefeated when Chofay posts three or more RBI, but 6-10 otherwise.

Coming up, Middletown is taking a road trip to face off against Burrillville at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Broncos' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Islanders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Prout, they will be playing in front of their home fans against West Warwick at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wizards have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
