A season-best performance from Andy Espinoza wasn't quite enough to get Varela over the hump on Wednesday. Espinoza didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over 5.2 innings pitched, which was good enough to set a new career-high in strikeouts.
