Softball Game Preview: Caney Creek Panthers vs. Conroe Tigers

Caney Creek hasn't had much luck against Conroe recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Caney Creek Panthers challenge Conroe Tigers at 6:15 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Caney Creek took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against College Park, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Caney Creek narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past College Park 3-2.

Avery Castaneda made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

Castaneda wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Merari Gonzalez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Gonzalez a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Conroe had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They never let the Wildkats get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.

Conroe pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Caney Creek, their win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-12.

Caney Creek might still be hurting after the 15-1 defeat they got from Conroe when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Caney Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
