Basketball Recap: Jason Aguilar's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Joseph Academy over Harlingen

St. Joseph Academy easily dispatched IDEA North Mission on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Bloodhounds fell just short of the Harlingen Cardinals by a score of 44-42 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bloodhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1001st, while the Cardinals are ranked 217th).

St. Joseph Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jason Aguilar, who went 8-for-16 to rack up 20 points. The Bloodhounds are 3-1 when Aguilar posts 15 or more points, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Luisalfonso Zolezzi, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Harlingen got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ricki Henderson out in front who had nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Flores, who put up eight points.

St. Joseph Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Harlingen, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3.

St. Joseph Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-40 loss against Pace on the 6th. As for Harlingen, they have also already played their next matchup, a 54-48 defeat against Hanna on the 6th.
