League recap: Locust Grove rises in state rank

3A District 7 recap October 1, 2013

Locust Grove moved up to 51 from 82 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A District 7. The Pirates climbed the ranks as a result of besting Sequoyah 38-34.

Lincoln Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs triumphed over Justice Wilson SeeWorth Academy 56-0.

Lincoln Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Micah Wilson threw for 142 and 2 touchdowns and Jacob White had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Jared Fimple contributed 129 yards.

Fimple was a key player and the best on defense this week as Darren Melton's team defeated the Eagles. The 5-foot-8 senior.

Wilson put up the best numbers through the air as the Bulldogs bested Justice Wilson SeeWorth Academy. Wilson's favorite target this week was White, who caught 6 passes for 83 yards.

Lincoln Christian's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Wilson has thrown for 699 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while White has 18 catches for 243 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Lincoln Christian takes on Jay. The Bulldogs are in third place, while the Bulldogs are in fourth place.

Locust Grove added to the longest winning streak in 3A District 7 this week by beating the Indians, 38-34. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
