Darren McGee made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his seven plate appearances with one double.
McGee wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jesus Rios, who got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with one run. Deegan Polson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Bonanza kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Durango came tearing into last Wednesday's contest with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Warriors. The Trailblazers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.
Like Bonanza, Durango also got a great game from a two-way player: Teagan Payne. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Payne has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carson Crosby was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jon Turner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Durango's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Bonanza, their record now sits at 13-17.
Bonanza came up short against Durango in their previous matchup back in March, falling 8-3. Can the Bengals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
