Softball Recap: Innovation Wins Going Away Against Freedom

Innovation won the last time they faced Freedom and things went their way on Friday too. The Bulls were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Patriots. The Bulls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.

Guiliana Rodriguez Fernandez made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Rodriguez Fernandez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Berit Acker was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Celeste Vargas, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Innovation always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom only posted an OBP of .444.

The victory made it two in a row for Innovation and bumps their season record up to 8-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Freedom, their loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-16.

Innovation has already played their next match, an 8-4 defeat against East River on the 7th. As for Freedom, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 15-0 loss against Boone on the 9th.
