Softball Recap: Cromwell Comes Up Short

Cromwell dropped their record down to 9-7 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Haddam-Killingworth Cougars, falling 11-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-4 two weeks ago.

As for Haddam-Killingworth, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Haddam-Killingworth's part, Emma Giaccone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Giaccone has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace LaConte was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Caley Napoletano, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cromwell will face off against Westbrook at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Haddam-Killingworth, they will square off against East Lyme at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in the Cougars' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Vikings have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
