Basketball Recap: Kelley Comes Up Short

Kelley lost against Cherry back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Kelley Mariners were outmatched by the Cherry Tigers and fell 76-36.

Cherry's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anna Serna led the charge by going 5-for-9 on her way to 17 points along with eight boards and six assists. Serna also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Cherry is 8-4 when she posts at least five steals, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Aunika Helms, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Kelley's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Cherry, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kelley will challenge Cook County at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cherry, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers face off against the Panthers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
