Basketball Recap: Deland Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact DeLand can now relate to. They took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Timber Creek Wolves on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Wolves are ranked 24th).

It was another big night for Serene Exalant, who went 6-for-11 en route to 14 points in addition to eight boards and six assists for Timber Creek. Exalant is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games she's played. Kareena Ortiz was another key player, going 5-for-10 on her way to 11 points.

This is the second loss in a row for DeLand and nudges their season record down to 18-10. As for Timber Creek, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.

DeLand does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Timber Creek, they will face off against West Port at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Timber Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
