Basketball Game Preview: Glenvar Highlanders vs. Alleghany Cougars

Glenvar and Alleghany are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Glenvar Highlanders just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Alleghany Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Glenvar sitting on three straight wins and Alleghany on seven.

While Glenvar didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They secured a 67-61 W over William Byrd on Monday.

Meanwhile, Alleghany didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Lord Botetourt on Friday, but they still walked away with a 59-55 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alleghany pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Glenvar, they are also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Glenvar came up short against Alleghany in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 64-55. Can Glenvar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
