Softball Game Preview: Plainville Blue Devils vs. Southington Blue Knights

The Plainville Blue Devils will challenge the Southington Blue Knights at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Plainville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Plainville and Platt meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Blue Devils have won seven contests by more than ten runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Southington was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They fell 4-1 to Mercy.

Shelby Jordan spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Olivia Gombotz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Perugini, who went 2-for-6 with one triple.

Southington's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-4. As for Plainville, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.

Plainville couldn't quite get it done against Southington in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
