Yreka and Corning squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Yreka had to settle for second. They fell to the Corning Cardinals 24-20. The Miners lost against the Cardinals in their previous head to head back in October of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 54-14 score last time.

Despite the loss, Yreka had strong showings from Jerome Walker, who threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and Trevan Crane, who rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Corning to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaleb Flournoy, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Corning also got a significant boost from Blake Ward, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

Yreka's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3. As for Corning, their record now sits at 5-6.

Yreka does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Corning, they will take on Orland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Orland will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Corning surely won't give up without a fight.
