Baseball Game Preview: Point Loma Pointers vs. Montgomery Aztecs

The Point Loma Pointers will be taking part in a tournament against the Montgomery Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Point Loma is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Granite Hills just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 6-2 to the Eagles.

Druw Frost was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Ben Waterman was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Montgomery, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Scripps Ranch a 1-0 shutout on Monday.

Not much got past Jesus Cano, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Scripps Ranch off the board. Cano also tossed a walk, which is notable because Montgomery is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 1-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Montgomery saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marco Reyes, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Point Loma's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Montgomery, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Point Loma beat Montgomery 5-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Does Point Loma have another victory up their sleeve, or will Montgomery turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
