Chris Munroe and Trevor Halalilo were among the main playmakers for Layton Christian Academy as the former rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 161 yards and one score on only 14 carries. Those 122 rushing yards gave Munroe a new career-high.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Layton Christian Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 302 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 230 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
Layton Christian Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Hayden Tuinei and Mosese Reeves. Another thorn in Providence Hall's side was Mark Montgomery, who forced one fumble, made three total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defended six passes.
Meanwhile, American Leadership Academy took a blow against South Summit on Friday, falling 54-15. The Eagles have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Although American Leadership Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Wyatt Hopkins and Dominic Mendez.
Layton Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for American Leadership Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Layton Christian Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 251 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for American Leadership Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 86.5 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
