Baseball Recap: East Duplin Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact East Duplin can now relate to. They fell just short of the Martin County Gators by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.

Kyle Kern was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

East Duplin has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. As for Martin County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 21-4.

East Duplin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Martin County, they will square off against North Johnston on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gators 2.4, the Panthers 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
